Home Security Pitfalls to Avoid

Posted on Updated on

While it’s always a good thing to have dependable wireless home security systems protecting your home, being smart about how you leave your home is still the best way to protect against burglars and thieves. For instance, there are some common things that many people take for granted but can actually undermine whatever security protocols they have put up.

Ladders plus Second-Floor Windows

Your front door is bolted, and you even have a tough guard dog behind it, waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting burglar. Your first-floor windows are also protected with grilles and an alarm system. If you’re leaving your ladder around your yard where just about anybody can get to it, make sure your second-story windows are just as protected.

Boxes are Giveaways

Did you just buy a brand new flat screen TV to go along with that Xbox One and PS4 because you just had to get both)? Well, you should take care not to dump the boxes they came in in your trash, otherwise any potential burglar will know exactly what valuables to grab in your home.

Keep Lights On

Whenever you’re heading out for a vacation that lasts for weeks or even just a few days, make sure that the lights in your house don’t stay out for the entire duration of your trip. Dark homes are clear indicators that the occupants are out.
